How do you portray an extraordinary orchestra’s
love for their homeland to the world?

Challenge

The task was to create a visually compelling and engaging poster that encompasses the emotions of a conductor and an orchestra who have been deeply affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and who have come together for a whirlwind concert tour. The goal of the tour is to bring greater awareness of their country’s plight and support for their fight against Russia.

Solution

Since there was a lot of information to convey, I decided to create an infographic. But I didn’t want it to be a static, set of blocks on a grid. I wanted it to have the illusion of movement. I also wanted to capture emotion alongside that movement, so I laid out interview quotes from orchestra members and from the conductor in a swirling pattern using a Fibonacci grid as my guide. For all of the other information, I created blocks, but I used shapes instead of bullet points to create interest. I used color to move the viewer’s eyes from one section to another. And I colored the title with a gradient of the Ukrainian flag’s colors.
